Vol. 461 No. 8

Written Answers. - Brinks-Allied Robbery.

Mary Harney

Question:

20 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Justice her views on reports that a well known criminal who was questioned in relation to the Brinks Allied robbery in 1995 has financed a front company said to be involved in money laundering and smuggling contraband; her further views on allegations that the vehicles used in the Brinks Allied robbery were stored in the company premises of this person; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3910/96]

On a general point, I do not believe that it is appropriate for the Minister for Justice to enter into speculation as to whether particular individuals are engaged in activities of the kind described or whether they may have been involved in the commission of a particular crime. That is a matter for the Garda authorities. The robbery in question remains the subject of a Garda investigation and I could not, therefore, comment on it at this stage.
