Vol. 461 No. 8

Written Answers. - Fundraising Restrictions.

Helen Keogh

Question:

68 Mrs. Keogh asked the Minister for Justice her views regarding the fund-raising restrictions on organisations such as the Rehab group. [3058/96]

There is a commitment in the Government policy agreement to reform the law relating to the administration and regulation of charities along the lines of the report of the Committee on Fund-raising Activities for Charitable and Other Purposes which included recommendations relating to the improvement of the position of charitable lotteries.

The Minister of State, Deputy Joan Burton, held a very successful conference with a number of charities in June 1995. Work on the preparation of the necessary legislation is proceeding in my Department and it is my intention that proposals will be brought before Government as quickly as possible.
