10 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for his failure to introduce a Bill to remove dependency terms in the social welfare code as promised during the debate on the Social Welfare (No. 2) Bill, 1995. [1213/96]
I assume, given the debate during the passage of the Social Welfare (No. 2) Act 1995, that the Deputy is referring to the terms "prisoner's wife" and "deserted wife".
It is intended to remove these dependency terms from the social welfare code in the forthcoming Social Welfare Bill, which will be introduced shortly.
