Vol. 462 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Staffing.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

112 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will have arrangements made for the appointment of a clerical officer to the social welfare office in Fermoy, County Cork. [4061/96]

There are two offices in Fermoy. One is a branch office which is operated under contract to my Department. This office deals with unemployment claims and payments and the running of the office is the responsibility of the contractor.

There is also an office used by the local social welfare inspector, who deals with the investigation of claims for social welfare payments and PRSI inspection work. There are no plans at present for the appointment of a clerical officer to that office.

However, my Department is examining ways in which we can enhance the quality of service provided throughout the country and the question of providing clerical and technological support for the Fermoy office will be considered in that context.
