Vol. 462 No. 2

Written Answers. - Ballymun (Dublin) Redevelopment Proposals.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

124 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for the Environment if he has considered the Ballymun redevelopment proposals from Dublin Corporation; when he will respond to these proposals; if he will sanction phase two of the refurbishment in view of the fact that it is three years since the pilot phase was completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4394/96]

Dublin Corporation's response to its consultants' report, which evaluated the complete refurbishment work in the pilot phase and made recommendations on the future of the Ballymun flats complex, was recently received and is being examined in my Department. A decision on the corporation's proposals will be made as soon as possible. Since the completion of the pilot phase, I approved the corporation's proposals for the reroofing of the spine and tower blocks at an estimated cost of some £2.5 million.
