Vol. 462 No. 3

Written Answers. - Foreign Investment in Ireland.

Ivor Callely

Question:

96 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the direct foreign investment in Ireland for each of the years from 1989 to 1995, if he will give a breakdown of the investment in 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4375/96]

Agency data (IDA and Forbairt) on foreign investment in Ireland derives from their statistics on eligible fixed assets (EFA) in companies against which capital grants are paid.

The introduction of employment grant assistance related to the creation of employment which is not directly related to capital investment means that fixed asset investment in these companies is not tracked. The actual amount of foreign direct investment flowing into Ireland is therefore larger than that indicated by the following figures although the trends are probably the same.

EFA: 1989-1995
