A merit award scheme has been in operation in my Department since 1994. Under the terms of the administrative budget arrangements approved by the Minister for Finance, up to 0.1 per cent of the Department's subhead A1 — Salaries, Wages and Allowances as published in the Revised Estimates for Public Services is available in any calendar year for payments or other awards to staff in recognition of exceptional performance of duty, provided that such expenditure can be met within the overall allocations agreed each year for the administrative budget.
The date, £22,993.91 has been expended by the Department under the scheme in respect of 46 awards, of which 14 were awards to sections of the Department. The balance were made to individuals, either in cash or by way of voucher/token. The grades of the staff involved were as follows:—
