Vol. 462 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Westmeath Estate.

Liam Fitzgerald

Question:

108 Mr. L. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if an estate (details supplied) in County Westmeath is owned by the Land Commission; if so, if the development carried out on the bog is with the consent of the Land Commission; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Deputy Mr. L. Fitzgerald raised this matter with senior officials in his Department during 1994; if his attention has been further drawn to the fact that Deputy Mr. L. Fitzgerald presented copies of reports and drawings (copies attached) to the Land Commission on 7 November 1995, and earlier, and was informed that in view of inclement weather they were unable to survey the bog to check the matters raised by Deputy Mr. L. Fitzgerald in his letter dated 7 November 1995 and the reports enclosed with that letter; his views on whether this response is totally unsatisfactory in view of the long history of this case relating back to 1983; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4787/96]

I am aware that the Deputy has been in correspondence with my Department in this matter and I am arranging to have a detailed reply sent to him as soon as possible.
