Vol. 462 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hazardous Waste.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

141 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has for the disposal of hazardous waste in view of the decision of An Bord Pleanála to refuse permission for an incineration facility in Dublin. [5015/96]

Under the Waste Management Bill, 1995, which should soon be enacted, responsibility for hazardous waste management planning will be assigned to the Environmental Protection Agency, which will be required to draw up a national hazardous waste management plan. The adequacy of infrastructural facilities for hazardous waste management will, inter alia, be considered in this context. I refer also to the reply to Questions Nos. 8, 18, 25, 36, 40, 54, 144 and 146 of 7 November 1995, which dealt extensively with questions relating to hospital and other waste incineration.
