66 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Taoiseach the percentage of imported cement in this State; the percentage amount of cement manufactured in this State; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4874/96]

Information on the production of cement is not available because of commercial confidentiality. The most recent statistics relate to September 1995. The imports of cement in January to September 1995 were 209,897 tonnes, with a value of £10.1 million. The imports in 1994 were 220,886 tonnes, with a value of £11.0 million. Overall, approximately 10 per cent of trade is unclassified by commodity. This unclassified trade includes intra-EU estimates.
