Vol. 462 No. 6

Prohibition of Anti-Personnel Landmines Bill, 1996: First Stage.

I move:

That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to prohibit the production, procurement, transfer, sale, repair, stockpiling, import and use of anti-personnel landmines.

Is the Bill opposed?

In view of the fact that this Bill will have all-party support in the House I ask the Taoiseach to seriously consider giving Government time to debate it. The Bill will not require a long debate.

I will consider the matter.

Question put and agreed to.

Since the Bill is not opposed, Second Stage shall be taken in Private Members' time.

I move: "That the Second Stage be taken in Private Members time."

Question put and agreed to.
