Vol. 462 No. 6

Written Answers. - Marine Departmental Consultancy.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

44 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for the Marine the cost to the Exchequer of the consultants appointed by his Department to review the administrative structures in his Department; when he expects this report to be ready; and the reason the report was not produced by June 1995, as was originally informed in February 1995. [5167/96]

The review of the organisational and management structure of the fishery service which is in progress is examining the institutional framework for the development and regulation of the sea fisheries, aquaculture and inland fisheries sectors, with a view to recommending any changes necessary for improving the coherence and efficiency of the delivery of public policies and services to those sectors. The review, which is being conducted by Price Waterhouse Management Consultants, will cost £91,000

While it had been intended originally to have the main work of the review completed by June 1995, it has been necessary for the consultants to undertake an extensive and time consuming process of analysis, evaluation and consultation (including a wide-ranging consultation with all relevant interests in the sectors concerned). I now expect to receive the final report of the review in April.
