Vol. 462 No. 8

Written Answers. - Community Employment Schemes Supervisors.

Tony Gregory

Question:

240 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment whether he intends to create permanent positions regarding the position of supervisors on community employment schemes; whether he intends to give some security, namely, over a three year period; the parity of their rates of pay with persons in similar full-time employment; if he will ensure that training is provided to all supervisors as soon as they take up that position; and whether he intends to create the post of assistant supervisor. [5741/96]

Supervisors of community employment projects are employed by way of mainsteam employment and engaged by sponsors. As such their pay and conditions of employment are matters for negotiation between the supervisor concerned, his or her union and the relevant sponsor. Sponsors of projects involving 24 or more participants are entitled to engage an assistant supervisor. All necessary training to do the job is being provided by FÁS.
