Vol. 463 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Grant-Aid.

Liam Fitzgerald

Question:

66 Mr. L. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education if she has received an application from schools (details supplied) in Dublin 13 for grant aid towards the cost of replacement windows for both schools; her views on whether the condition of these windows constitutes a grave risk to the health and safety of pupils and staff; if she will have this application expeditiously processed in view of the circumstances; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5915/96]

An application for grant aid towards the cost of replacement windows at the schools to which the Deputy refers has been received within my Department.

My Department's professional advisers recently visited the schools and reported that while the requested works would be a desirable improvement, the present condition of the windows does not constitute a health and safety risk. The funds available this year for improvement works are fully committed and it is not possible to provide grant aid towards the cost of this project. The project will be considered again in the context of future capital allocations.
