Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Heritage Council Funding.

Tony Gregory

Question:

147 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the funding available to the National Heritage Council for grant aid to organisations; and the criteria for the allocation of these grants. [7152/96]

The Estimates for my Department for the current year provide for expenditure of £1.8 million by the Heritage Council for non-administrative purposes (subhead P.2 of Vote 42), which includes £600,000 for capital grants to other bodies and persons. It is a matter for the Heritage Council, which is a statutory autonomous body, to decide what proportion of the remainder of the provision (viz. £1.2 million) to allocate by way of non-capital grant aid to outside bodies.

The criteria for allocation of grant aid to outside bodies is a matter for the Heritage Council.
