Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Free Phone Service.

Ivor Callely

Question:

178 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education if she will consider making a free phone service available to the general public who require to make contact with her Department; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6970/96]

I do not at present have any plans to introduce a free phone service for members of the general public who wish to make contact with my Department.

I have in the past provided a free phone service in connection with third level grants and it is my intention that similar arrangements will be considered for other such appropriate purposes in the future.
However, the provision of local call access for members of the general public requiring to make contact with Government Departments is at present under consideration by an interdepartmental committee.
