Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Job Creation Staff.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

244 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the name, location and number of staff employed in each agency, organisation or body under the aegis of his Department which has a responsibility in relation to job creation, including tourism, enterprise promotion, community, rural or urban development and EU initiatives, including disbursement of grant aid. [6946/96]

Four State agencies operate under the aegis of my Department viz. An Bord Tráchtála which is responsible for trade promotion, Bord Fáilte and Shannon Development which are responsible for the promotion of tourism and CERT which is responsible for the recruitment, education and training of personnel for the tourism and catering industry. While these agencies are not directly involved in job creation per se, their activities have an indirect impact in this area. Individual autonomous management boards and committees established in late 1994 are involved, in conjunction with each of the agencies above, in the disbursement of EU grant aid under the EU Operational Programmes for Tourism and for Industry, which includes support measures for trade promotion.

Details of the name, location and numbers of staff employed in each of the agencies in question in specific areas of activity are day-to-day matters for the agencies themselves.
