Vol. 463 No. 7

Written Answers. - Navan (Meath) Courthouse.

Mary Wallace

Question:

74 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Justice the current position regarding the provision of a proper courthouse in Navan, County Meath; if her attention has been drawn to the appalling condition under which the Navan courthouse is attempting to operate, in a community centre with no facilities for the family courts; the plans, if any, she has regarding the provision of a proper courthouse; the location and timescale for the provision of such a courthouse; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7260/96]

In November 1995, an initial inspection of a number of sites in Navan was undertaken by officials from my Department. Following on this, a site was identified as suitable and discussions are ongoing with the county council on its availability for the courthouse project.

At this stage, it is too early to give any indication as to timescale etc. other than to say that I am committed to ensuring that proper court facilities will be made available in Navan, in due course.
