Vol. 463 No. 8

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

132 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice when the vacant position of sergeant will be filled at a Garda station (details supplied) in County Cork. [7451/96]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed deployment of the force to individual areas. They have informed me that on 22 April 1996 the station in question will be incorporated into the new Garda division of Cork north. The question of allocating a sergeant to the station will then be considered in conjunction with the needs of other districts/divisions. The current strength of the station is two gardaí. When necessary, assistance is provided from the district headquarters which is in close proximity and is open on a 24 hour basis.
