Vol. 463 No. 8

Written Answers. - Non-Executive Directors' Remuneration.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

69 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Health the level of remuneration of the non-executive directors of boards, companies or agencies under the aegis of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6508/96]

Limerick East): The level of remuneration of the non-executive directors of boards, companies or agencies under the aegis of the Department of Health is as follows. A fee of £2,000 per annum is paid to each ordinary member of the Adoption Board and £47,807 is paid to the full-time chairperson of the board. A sum of £15,000 per annum is paid to the chairperson of the Blood Transfusion Service Board. The Irish Medicines Board Act, 1995, provides for the payment of remuneration to the chairperson of that board and discussions are ongoing with the Department of Finance to determine the appropriate level of remuneration. A sum of £6,000 per annum is payable to the chairperson of the Voluntary Hospital Insurance Board. However, the current chairperson does not accept these fees. Other members of the board are paid £4,000 per annum. A sum of £7,500 per annum is payable for the combined allowances of the chairperson and vice-chairperson of each health board.

Remuneration paid to non-executive directors of boards, companies or agencies under the aegis of this Department is determined according to the relevant Act or Statutory Instrument establishing each board.
