Vol. 464 No. 1

Written Answers. - Commission on the Newspaper Industry.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Question:

40 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the timetable for the deliberations of the recently appointed Commission on the Newspaper Industry. [7664/96]

The Commission on the Newspaper Industry began its work in late September 1995. The issues being dealt with by the commission are wide ranging and complex. The commission has also received a significant number of submissions.

The commission is aware of the need to produce its report at the earliest possible date but is also aware of the necessity to complete its work thoroughly. I expect the report to be submitted to me in early summer.

The report of the Commission on the Newspaper Industry will be considered by Government and I will arrange to have it published as soon as practicable thereafter.
