Vol. 464 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Wexford Lands Sale.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

133 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to any future plans to sell part of the lands at Johnstown Castle, County Wexford. [7898/96]

The ownership of the Johnstown Castle Estate is vested in Teagasc. Under the Johnstown Castle Agricultural College Acts, 1945 to 1996, Teagasc may dispose of only small parts of the estate.

I understand from Teagasc that it has no proposals to dispose of any part of the estate. Any such proposal would, under the Agricultural (Research, Training and Advice) Act, 1988, be subject to the consent of the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry.
