Vol. 464 No. 2

Written Answers. - Company Employment Resumption.

Brendan Smith

Question:

13 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the progress, if any, that has been made by his Department and the State development agencies in assisting the resumption of employment at a company (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7759/96]

Since the announcement by the company concerned at the end of February that it intended to close its plant for a three month period for rationalisation purposes, Forbairt has been in continuous contact with it. Forbairt offered its full services to the firm with a view to seeing how the company's problems can be overcome. Discussions are ongoing, and the present position is that the company is reviewing the commercial options open to it for the viable recommencement of full trading. I understand however, that some business is continuing at the plant, where certain products are being manufactured on a small scale. My Department will continue to liaise with Forbairt and will monitor developments very closely.
