Vol. 464 No. 2

Written Answers. - Non-EU Students in Ireland.

Hugh Byrne

Question:

98 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the desire of non-national, non-EU students of Irish parentage anxious to be educated in this country; the cost of third level education to these people; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7886/96]

As a general rule students who are not EU nationals are not eligible to avail of student support including the free fees initiative.

In relation to the cost of third level education the general practice is that universities charge fees to non-EU students which reflect the economic cost of providing the course. Fee levels in the university institutions vary according to the discipline being pursued.
