Vol. 464 No. 2

Written Answers. - Farriery Centre Closure.

Paul Bradford

Question:

126 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if is attention has been drawn to the decision to close the Irish Farriery Centre, Arklow, County Wicklow; the plans, if any, he has to assist the students registered at the centre; his views on the future of farrier training; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7847/96]

I am aware that a decision has been taken to close the farriery training centre in Arklow. I understand the courses offered there did not command the support of the relevant industry organisations and did not lead to any recognised qualification.

Regarding the future of farrier training I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 265 of 2 April 1996.
