Question:

158 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for the Marine the applications he has received for aquaculture licences in the Western Fisheries Board region in the last year including the names of licensees, the areas involved, conditions attached; and whether these licences were for fallowing or for increased tonnage. [8056/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 157 and 158 together.

No new salmon farming licences were granted for increases in licensed tonnage in the Western Fisheries Board region in the last year. Five applications for fallowing permissions in the Western Fisheries Board region were received within the last year. Four temporary permits as listed below have been granted authorising the placement of this year's smolt intake at separate sites to facilitate separation of generations and fallowing of existing operational sites. The fifth application is not being proceeded with by the applicants at present.

Stringent conditions rigorously circumscribe the fallowing site licences and I have asked that the conditions applicable in respect of each licence be forwarded to the Deputy.
