Vol. 464 No. 3

Written Answers. - Litter Acts Fines.

Pat Upton

Question:

63 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Environment the total amount collected in fines for breaches of the Litter Acts for each local authority area for each year since 1990. [7950/96]

Courts fines under the Litter Act, 1982, do not accrue to local authorities and information on them is not available on the basis of local authority areas. Amounts collected by local authorities in on-the-spot fines have generally been quite small. The largest amounts collected in 1994, the latest year for which details are complete, were: South Dublin County Council, £2,575; Galway Corporation, £1,700; Dublin Corporation, £1,325; and Fingal County Council, £1,150.
