Vol. 464 No. 3

Written Answers. - New National School, Offaly.

Brian Cowen

Question:

83 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Education the status of an agreement entered into at the time of the opening of a new national school (details supplied) in County Offaly whereby parents living in a townland (details supplied) were assured that schoolchildren from that area would be collected from their own houses rather than the current collection point; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7943/96]

My Department is not aware of any agreement to collect schoolchildren from their homes following the opening of the new national school named by the Deputy. Under the terms of the school transport scheme, transport is currently being provided for the children from the townland in question to the school of amalgamation. The level of service provided for these pupils is considered to be reasonable and satisfactory in the context of the general operation of the scheme.
