Vol. 464 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Placement.

Tony Gregory

Question:

87 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made to find a school place for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 10 who has been out of school since October 1995. [8061/96]

The selection and enrolment of pupils in secondary schools is, in the first instance the responsibility of individual schools. In cases where students have been removed from a second level school, my Department's inspectorate endeavours, by a process of consultation with school management, to have the pupil in question placed in a school in his locality. These type of cases, which by their nature are difficult to resolve, can take some time to be brought to a conclusion. My Department is continuing in its efforts to have an appropriate placement provided for this student. I will advise the Deputy of any developments.
