Vol. 464 No. 3

Written Answers. - Remedial Teacher Appointments.

Tony Killeen

Question:

90 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Education when a remedial teacher will be provided for three schools (details supplied) in County Clare. [8092/96]

Dermot Ahern

Question:

100 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to a recent survey of the remedial service in primary schools in District No. 5, INTO, which has confirmed that many schools in the districts which cover Cavan, Monaghan and Louth have not been allocated the services of a remedial teacher; if she will make provision in this respect in the next allocation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8186/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 90 and 100 together. I am aware of the survey of remedial needs referred to by Deputy Ahern, but I am not in a position at present to make remedial teacher posts available to primary schools. I will continue to review needs in this area and consider how best these needs can be addressed within available resources. The needs of all schools, including the schools referred to by the Deputies, will be considered within this context.
