Vol. 464 No. 4

Written Answers. - Prison Services.

Noel Davern

Question:

102 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Justice when recruitment will take place for the expanding prison services; when the existing panel of prison officers will be abolished; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8265/96]

As stated in my reply to a parliamentary question from Deputy Batt O'Keeffe on 2 April, 1996, I have no plans for further recruitment to the Prison Service at this stage. I am not in a position to say when the panel of prison officers will end other than to reiterate what I said in reply to Parliamentary Question No. 86 of 28 February, 1996, that is, that the Civil Service Commissioners have informed me that my Department's recruitment requirements in the foreseeable future will be met from among those who made application to them in response to advertisements placed in September, 1993 and April, 1995.
