Vol. 464 No. 4

Written Answers. - Travers Report on Science, Technology and Innovation.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

110 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment when the Travers report on science and technology will be made available in view of the fact that this report emanates from the Tierney report of the Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council which was initiated by Deputy S. Brennan when in office. [8290/96]

The Travers report on Science, Technology and Innovation was published in March 1995 and contained 160 recommendations.

The Government established a task force, under the supervision of a Cabinet Committee, to examine the recommendations and to report on how they could best be brought forward for implementation. The task force was chaired by Mr. John Travers, chief executive officer of Forfás and included representatives from Government Departments. The Travers report has been completed and its recommendations have been considered by the Cabinet Committee.

The Travers task force report is an internal document and it was never the intention to publish it. It is now with the Minister of State with responsibility for Commerce, Science and Technology who is preparing a public response to the Tierney report, for early consideration by Government prior to its publication.
