Vol. 464 No. 4

Written Answers. - Defence Force Personnel.

Seán Power

Question:

135 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Defence the provision, if any, he is making for the future employment of civilian staff. [8388/96]

It is presumed that the reference is to the civilian employees engaged under section 30 of the Defence Act, 1954, who provide various services for the Defence Forces at military installations across the country. These are normally provided for in Subhead F of the Defence Vote and, for 1996, this subhead caters for a strength of 1,352 civilian employees at a cost of £20.55 million. There is an annual turnover of approximately 40 of these civilians and their replacement is provided for within the provision in the 1996 Estimate.
