Vol. 464 No. 5

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Costello — the need to expedite the transfer of Irish prisoners under the Transfer of Sentenced Persons Act, 1995; (2) Deputy Ó Cuív — the need for a structural and safety assessment of, and for the necessary moneys to be made available for the pier at Cleggan, County Galway, and the need for official recognition of the pier as a fishing and ferry port; (3) Deputy Quill — the recent report which confirms that unemployment in Cork North-Central has risen by 2 per cent in the last twelve months and the reason unemployment in this constituency is going against the national trend; (4) Deputy Noel Ahern — the concern of landlords with the Housing (Registration of Rented Houses) Regulations, 1996; (5) Deputy Eric Byrne — the urgent need to establish a special Garda task force to coordinate the investigations into the recent killings in Dublin which are suspected to have resulted from criminal rivalry; (6) Deputy Kathleen Lynch — the need to ensure that history remains compulsory for junior certificate students; (7) Deputy Brendan Smith — the need to approve the proposal by Cavan County Council to provide a new branch library at Cootehill; (8) Deputy Broughan — the need to re-examine the provision of resources for orthodontic dental care on the northside of Dublin.

The matters raised by Deputies Noel Ahern, Costello, Quill and Ó Cuív have been selected for discussion.
