Vol. 464 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Michael Ring

Question:

134 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that the third school bus will not be removed from the Newport area to the Westport secondary schools, County Mayo. [8548/96]

The position in this case is that four school buses operated through Newport. However, the number of pupils currently availing of transport has now decreased to the extent that all can be accommodated on three vehicles. Accordingly the fourth vehicle has now ceased operation.

The level of service available to these pupils will continue to be reasonable and adequate in the general context of the school transport scheme.

Should the number of pupils offering for transport increase from September next suitable arrangements will be made to cater for all eligible pupils.
