Vol. 464 No. 6

Written Answers. - Community Employment Schemes.

Seán Haughey

Question:

193 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if worker development grants from FÁS are provided for community employment projects employing fewer than 11 workers; if so, his views on whether this discriminates against those involved in smaller community employment schemes; if he will intervene with FÁS to rectify this situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Development modules for participants on community employment projects are currently being phased in for projects involving 11 or more participants. Given that it is not practicable to introduce development modules on smaller projects, FÁS facilitates such projects to amalgamate in order that participants on these projects may avail of development modules. Accordingly the question of discrimination does not arise.

Séamus Hughes

Question:

194 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the plans, if any, he has to change community employment schemes in order that schools will not be eligible to be considered for the purposes of such schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8524/96]

All voluntary, community and public sector bodies, including schools are eligible to sponsor community employment. I have no plans to change the current eligibility pool of sponsors.
