Criminal Justice (Mental Disorder) Bill, 1996: First Stage.

I move:

That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to provide for the verdict of not guilty by reason of mental disorder and to provide for the defence of diminished responsibility and to provide for procedures to deal with accused persons who are unfit to plead to criminal charges and to provide for the detention, treatment and regulation of persons who are found to be not guilty by reason of mental disorder and to provide for other matters connected with the matters aforesaid.

Since the Bill is not opposed, Second Stage shall be taken in Private Members' time.
