Vol. 465 No. 2

Written Answers. - Criteria for New House Grant.

James Leonard

Question:

37 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for the Environment the qualification criteria, if any, that is used when assessing timber frame houses as against a traditional type of house for the purpose of new house grants. [6551/96]

Generally speaking, the conditions for qualifying for a new house grant in relation to a timber framed house are the same as those in the case of a traditional type house. However, the applicant, in the case of a timber framed house must also establish that the manufacturer has had the system assessed and approved by Forbairt or other competent authority for compliance with the building regulations, and must have the structural design, together with the design calculations, certified by a competent engineer, having regard to the location of the site.
