Vol. 465 No. 2

Written Answers. - Pollution Control Licensing.

Michael Ahern

Question:

62 Mr. M. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to include agricultural activities among the list of established, as distinct from new, activities to be subjected to integrated licencing under the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992. [9316/96]

Integrated pollution control (IPC) licensing for activities listed in the First Schedule to the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992, is being phased in over the five year period 1994 to 1998. Last March, I announced the extension of IPC licensing to new activities in the intensive agricultural and fossil fuels categories, and to a broader range of established activities. In doing so, I indicated my intention to make a further Established Activities Order next year which will include the commencement of IPC licensing for existing intensive agricultural activities.
