Vol. 465 No. 2

Written Answers. - Use of Mobile Phones.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

108 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment the procedures in place within his Department for monitoring the use of mobile phones by unestablished staff for purposes which are personal to the authorised user; the plans, if any, he has for improvements in this respect; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9392/96]

Arising from a value for money report by the Comptroller and Auditor General on the management of telephone facilities in the Civil Service, Departments generally are examining procedures on usage and monitoring of telecommunications facilities, including mobile phones. While there is no reason to believe that such phones are being misused by staff of my Department, procedures relating to them will be revised, if necessary, on completion of the examination.
