Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - Employment in Colleges.

Tony Gregory

Question:

151 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education the number of part-time teachers/lecturers employed by each regional technical college and the Dublin Institute of Technology in the academic year 1995-96; the percentage of such teachers/lecturers who taught less than 280 hours in each college in the academic year 1995-96; the percentage of the lecturing/teaching which was carried out by part-time, excluding eligible part-time staff, in each college in the academic year 1995-96; if she will seek assurances from each of the colleges that they comply with the terms of the Regular Part-Time Employees Act, 1991; and if she has issued any instruction, directive, or circular to the colleges which precludes them from complying with the terms of the Regular Part-Time Employees Act, 1991. [9513/96]

The figures requested by the Deputy are not available in my Department.

Regional technical colleges and the Dublin Institute of Technology are statutory institutions under the Regional Technical Colleges Act, 1992, and the Dublin Institute of Technology Act, 1992. Responsibility for compliance with relevant employment legislation rests with the authorities of each Institution. My Department has not issued any instructions to the institutions which would preclude them from complying with the terms of the Regular Part-Time Employees Act, 1991.
