Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin Tenants.

Tony Gregory

Question:

209 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will ensure that the investigation referred to in his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 177 of 8 May 1996 will establish whether the three tenants, two single persons and one single parent with two children, who were residing at the premises up to 20 April 1996 were not in receipt of rent supplements for other addresses; and whether the one officially registered tenant at this address moved on 20 April 1996 as a result of court action taken by the city fire officer on 19 April 1996. [9814/96]

The Deputy has been informed that only one rent supplement was in payment to a tenant residing at the premises concerned up to 20 April 1996. It is understood from the Eastern Health Board that this tenant moved out of these premises at the request of the landlord as the house was being restored to a single dwelling as a result of court action taken by the city fire officer on 19 April 1996. As I said in my reply of 8 May 1996 to the Deputy, I share his concerns about any possible abuse of the rent supplement scheme and an investigation is being carried out by the Eastern Health Board as a result of his parliamentary question of 8 May 1996.
