Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - Pollution Prosecutions.

Eoin Ryan

Question:

250 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for the Marine the number of prosecutions undertaken further to the regulations made under the Sea Pollution Act 1991 concerning the prevention of pollution by oil, control of pollution by noxious liquid substances in bulk and prevention of pollution by rubbish; the number of convictions secured under these regulations since they have been introduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9564/96]

The regulations referred to, which are commonly known as the Marpol Regulations, are in force since 1 June 1994. To date no prosecutions have been undertaken under the regulations. By the end of the year I will be reviewing the implementation of the Marpol Regulations in the light of the experiences of the various parties concerned.
