Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Applications.

Tony Killeen

Question:

254 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for the Marine the date on which an application was made to his Department by the port of Cork for EU grant aid towards the purchase of a tug; and when the application was forwarded to Brussels. [9794/96]

An application from Cork Harbour Commissioners for EU Cohesion Fund aid towards the acquisition costs of a new tug was received in the Department in December 1992. The application was forwarded to Brussels in July 1993. Confirmation was received from the Commission of the European Communities that the Cork harbour tug project had been approved for grant assistance of £2.77 million from the Cohesion Fund in October 1994.

Construction work is proceeding satisfactorily and it is expected that the tug will be delivered to Cork harbour towards the end of June or early July this year.

Question:

255 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for the Marine the date on which an application was made to his Department for grant-aid towards the purchase of the tug, Cluain Tarbh; when the application was forwarded to the EU; and when approval issued from Brussels. [9795/96]

While a formal application from Dublin port for grant aid towards the purchase of a tug, Cluain Tarbh, was received on 3 December 1991, this project had been the subject of discussion for some time beforehand. The project was considered and approved at the Monitoring Committee Meeting of the Operational Programme on Peripherality of 13 December 1991 and approved for aid at a rate of 50 per cent.
