Written Answers. - Private Colleges.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

37 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Education the date for publication of the report of the working group on third-level private commercial colleges; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9603/96]

Michael McDowell

Question:

61 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Education the codes of standards, if any, she has established for private colleges in view of amendments made to the Finance Bill, 1996, which will extend tax relief to students enrolled in certain part-time undergraduate courses. [9585/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 37 and 61 together.

As required under the terms of section 6 of the Finance Act, 1995, I am now in consultation with my colleague the Minister for Finance about the codes of standards for approving colleges and courses for the purposes of the tax relief. These codes of standards will also apply in relation to the tax relief for part-time courses under the Finance Bill, 1996, when enacted. I would hope to complete these consultations in the very near future. It is then my intention to make available copies of the codes of standards and the report of the working group. I would hope to be able to do this before the end of the month. I will arrange to have copies sent to the Deputies.
