Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Funding.

Liam Fitzgerald

Question:

131 Mr. L. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for the Environment if he will agree to fund the inspectorate costs that will be incurred by local authorities in their operation of the proposed Housing (Registrations of Rented Houses) Regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9669/96]

An annual registration fee of £40 per unit of accommodation is payable to the housing authority in accordance with the regulations. This fee will generate an income to assist authorities, in enforcing, in a proactive manner, the various statutory requirements in regard to private rented accommodation, including rent books and minimum physical standards of accommodation. In these circumstances, I have no proposals to provide additional funding from my Department for these purposes.
