Vol. 465 No. 4

Written Answers. - Government Report to UN Committee.

Helen Keogh

Question:

108 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform whether Ireland's second periodic report due under the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women is being combined with our third periodic report; whether this report will be submitted to the relevant UN Committee; and the organisations and sectors, if any, that will be consulted before the report is submitted. [9902/96]

Ireland's second and third reports due under Article 18 of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women will be combined with UN agreement. This will, in fact, assist the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women in dealing with the backlog of reports awaiting examination.

This is a Government report to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women but it is proposed to consult women's NGOs when it is completed and to give them an opportunity to respond to it. Responses will be included in the report submitted to the UN.
