Vol. 465 No. 4

Written Answers. - Under-Age Late Night Drinking.

James Leonard

Question:

154 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to address under-age late night drinking; and the proposals, if any, she has to review late night extensions. [9875/96]

Section 35 of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1988, makes it an offence for a licensee to allow any person under 18 years of age, with an exception for employees, on any part of his or her licensed premises during the time an exemption is in operation in that part. It is also an offence for the person who is under 18 years of age to be on the part of a licensed premises where an exemption is in operation. The 1988 Act also amended the special exemption order provisions as they relate to Sunday night-Monday morning.

While all aspects of the liquor licensing laws are kept under continuing review, I have no proposals at present to amend those laws.
