Vol. 465 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Allowances.

Pat Gallagher

Question:

166 Mr. Gallagher (Laoighis-Offaly) asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will make provision for the part-payment of child dependant allowances to participants on community employment programmes who have partial or shared custody for child dependants by virtue of the terms of legal separation agreements; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9900/96]

Participants on community employment receive a personal allowance pitched at a slightly higher rate to their social welfare entitlement in order to provide them with an incentive to participate on the programme. They can also receive additional allowances in respect of an adult dependant or any dependent children they may have. In cases of shared responsibility for the maintenance of a child, participants are entitled to half the additional allowance in respect of that child.
