Vol. 465 No. 4

Written Answers. - Investigation of Serious Crime.

John Ellis

Question:

53 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to allow a designated section of the Garda Síochána to work unspecified and self-discretionary hours in pursuit of serious offenders. [9769/96]

The allocation of Garda personnel and resources is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that in the investigation of serious crime, they allocate the necessary resources for proper investigation of that particular crime. Where flexibility or additional resources are required, investigation teams are employed accordingly or supplemented by additional gardaí. There are no plans at present to allow a designated section of the Garda Síochána to work unspecified and self-discretionary hours.
